PRE-COLUMBIAN JEWELRY
The ancient peoples located in the region near the northern Andes (including Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela) achieved a high degree of artistic evolution. Gold mines were abundant in this area, and the goldsmith's art was highly developed. The gold was worked not only by itself (as in the pieces below) but also in alloys of copper, silver, and other metals.
